HOUSTON, Jan. 3 -- The North West Shelf Venture has awarded Australian engineering and construction company John Holland Pty. Ltd. an $11 million contract for civil works on its $1.6 billion LNG expansion project.

John Holland will undertake all civil works and concrete foundations for the major off-plot process facilities associated with the development of the fourth train of the Burrup Peninsula liquefied natural gas plant.

This includes civil works for the sulphinol and thermal combustion units and air separation and power generation facilities. Also, it includes installation of all underground cabling linking the off-plot process facilities with new and existing substations.

John Holland will begin work on the 11-month project in late January.

Manfred Henze, general manager of onshore projects for JV operator Woodside Energy Ltd., said the contract continued a long association between the company and the North West Shelf Gas Project. "Over the past 2 decades John Holland has been involved in a number of major construction projects on the Burrup. This has included the installation of LNG piping onto the LNG jetty and also the construction of the LPG jetty."
