HOUSTON, Jan. 8 -- PetroChina Co. Ltd. has awarded two supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system contracts to Calgary-based Metso Automation Inc., the automation and control technology business area of Metso Corp. of Finland.
The first system, to be completed in 9 months, will be used for the Lan-Cheng-Yu pipeline, which will transport gasoline, diesel, and other products from an oil refinery in Lanzhou to Chongqing city via Chengdu, extending 1,247 km over mountainous terrain in western China.
Metso will supply a turnkey open architecture system (OASyS) SCADA structure with multiple control centers and substations, Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers, leak detection, and batch tracking. It will also undertake subcontracts for installation and commissioning of control, measurement, and block valve station instrumentation and wiring.
The second system will be used at the LangFang National Control Center. It will be a copy of the Lan-Cheng-Yu turnkey OASyS SCADA system, except for the addition of one extra CPU per server.
Initially, only a few pipelines, including Lan-Cheng-Yu, will report into the NCC. However, over the next few years, the control center may monitor up to 13 pipelines.
