Ecuador identifies eight blocks for ninth bidding round

Ecuador is preparing to call its ninth international oil bidding round, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries' news agency reported.

QUITO, Jan. 10 -- Ecuador is preparing to call its ninth international oil bidding round, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries' news agency has reported.

State oil company Petroecuador has defined eight blocks: offshore Blocks 4, 5, 39, and 40 and Amazon Blocks 20, 32, 33, and 35. It is considering adding three Amazon blocks to the sale.

Petroecuador has identified 13 structures on the blocks with possible reserves of 350 million bbl of heavy crude.

The company is preparing the technical documents for the bidding, including geological maps, socioeconomic studies, and legal work.
