TAIPEI, Jan. 30 -- Taiwan's state-run Chinese Petroleum Corp. has agreed to refine 600,000 bbl of crude oil for mainland China's China National Petroleum Corp.

Crude oil purchased by CNPC from Middle East producers will be shipped to Taiwan for refining at CPC's 300,000 b/d Ta-Lin facility, after which it will be transported to the mainland.

The crude is expected to begin arriving in Taiwan in the second quarter. If the short-term arrangement proves satisfactory, the companies may enter a longer-term agreement.

Recently, CNPC and CPC agreed to jointly explore the Taiwan Strait.
