Atlantia awards Matterhorn topsides contract to Technip-Coflexip affiliate

Atlantia Offshore Ltd. has let contract to Gulf Marine Fabricators, part of the Paris-based Technip-Coflexip Group, to build the topsides for the tension-leg platform to be installed on TotalFinaElf SA's Matterhorn development in the US Gulf of Mexico.

HOUSTON, Jan. 31 -- Atlantia Offshore Ltd. has let contract to Gulf Marine Fabricators, part of the Paris-based Technip-Coflexip Group, to build the topsides for the tension-leg platform to be installed on TotalFinaElf SA's Matterhorn development in the US Gulf of Mexico.

Matterhorn field is on Mississippi Canyon Block 243 in 2,800 ft of water.

Gulf Marine Fabricators, Aransas Pass, Tex., is responsible for the dry-tree topsides facility and foundation piles. It will conduct procurement, fabrication, and outfitting of a 6,000-ton topsides facility with a height of 18.9 m and an area of 59,00 sq m. Also, it will build six 96-in., 415-ft piles, totaling 2,100 tons.

Topsides work will begin this quarter with completion in May 2003; pile work will also begin this quarter with completion in July 2002.

Last year, Atlantia let a $22 million contract to Keppel FELS Ltd., Singapore, to build the Matterhorn tension-leg platform hull (OGJ Online, Oct. 24, 2001).
