HOUSTON, Nov. 15 -- Kerr-McGee Corp. has awarded CSO Aker Maritime Inc. a truss spar contract for the Gunnison field development in the Gulf of Mexico.
Technip-Coflexip Group, Paris, said its CSO Aker Maritime subsidiary is responsible for the engineering, procurement, fabrication, and delivery of the complete hull, moorings and riser system.
Gunnison field is on Garden Banks Blocks 667, 668, and 669 about 155 miles southeast of Galveston in 3,122 ft of water (OGJ Online, Oct. 23, 2001).
The engineering will be performed by CSO Aker Engineering in Houston and by CSO Aker Rauma in Finland. CSO Aker in Houston will also do the engineering and procurement of the riser system, while the mooring system will be engineered and procured by CSO Aker Rauma. The hull will be built at the CSO Mantyluoto Works facility in Finland. Delivery of the spar hull is scheduled for the third quarter of 2003.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The hull for Gunnison will be 549 ft tall with a diameter of 98 ft. It will displace 38,000 tonnes and weigh 14,000 tons.
It will be Kerr-McGee's third truss spar, which incorporates a tubular truss system replacing the lower part of the cylindrical hull.
Last week, Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corp. awarded a contract to Gulf Island LLC to build the topsides for the Gunnison spar platform. Financial terms were undisclosed.
Kerr-McGee operates Gunnison with a 50% working interest. Partners are Nexen Petroleum USA Inc. with 30% and Cal Dive International Inc. with 20%.
