HOUSTON, Nov. 12 -- Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. of South Korea has named an alliance of Fluor Corp. and AMEC PLC its subcontractor for what will be the world's largest deepwater floating production, storage, and offloading facility.
Esso Exploration Angola Ltd. is operator of the Kizomba development on Block 15 off Angola.
The Fluor Daniel-AMEC alliance (AFD) will provide engineering and procurement assistance for the topsides and project management services for the FPSO facility, which will be able to process 250,000 b/d and store of more than 2.2 million bbl of oil.
With production expected in 2004, the $3 billion Kizomba A development has recoverable resources of 1 billion bbl of oil. Kizomba A will develop discoveries in 3,300-4,200 ft of water.
Fluor's Kirk Grimes, group executive for energy and chemicals, said the FPSO would be the largest yet.
AFD will conduct design work and provide overall program management services from Fluor's Houston facility. Hyundai will fabricate and integrate the hull and topsides at Ulsan, South Korea, and then transport them to the site. AFD said up to 350 workers would expend 600,000 hr on the project.
