Statoil ASA extended for 5 years a contract with ABB Group unit ABB Offshore Systems for maintenance and modification of the gas treatment plant at Kårstø north of Stavanger and the Draupner platforms in the North Sea. The contract is valued at 325 million kroner.

Statoil and Petroleos de Venezuela SA have signed a memorandum of understanding to increase oil from production from a field. The plan is to increase oil production from Ceuta Area 2 Sur field in Lake Maracaibo. The field is producing 18,000 b/d.

Elf Petroleum Nigeria Ltd. issued a letter of commitment to Global Marine Inc., Houston, for 2-year contracts for both the Glomar Adriatic I and Glomar Baltic I jack ups. The proposed $121 million in contracts include rig upgrades that will cost a total $23 million. The jack ups will begin work on the Amenam Kpono field off Nigeria in second quarter 2002. Each contract includes options for extension.

Norwegian company Prosafe ASA said its Espoir Ivoirien floating production, storage, and offloading vessel will begin production from the Espoir field off the Ivory Coast in first quarter 2002. Also, Vaalco Energy Inc. awarded the FPSO Petroleo Nautipa a 2-year, $15 million contract to work off Gabon.
