HOUSTON, Oct. 3 -- Schlumberger Oilfield Services, a unit of Schlumberger Ltd., New York City, acquired Phoenix Petroleum Services of Inverurie, Scotland, which provides tools, technologies, and techniques to optimize production from artificially lifted wells, particularly those using submersible pumps.

The acquisition will increase Schlumberger's global in-well monitoring and artificial lift services, said company officials. However, no financial details of the acquisition were provided.

"Phoenix is an ideal complement to our vision of real-time, integrated field and reservoir management," said Peter Goode, president of well completions and productivity at Schlumberger. The acquisition "will offer immediate value to our submersible pump and gas lift businesses," he said.

"Synergies with Schlumberger's capabilities in geoscience, data management, and information technology will provide opportunities for our business and our people that would not otherwise be available," said John Schneider, managing director of Phoenix.
