The US Minerals Management Service will hold scoping meetings in four Gulf Coast cities this month for nine proposed oil and gas lease sales in the Central and Western Planning Areas of the Gulf of Mexico (OGJ Online, Sept. 14, 2001). The meetings are scheduled for Oct. 15 in Galveston, Oct. 16 in Houston, Oct. 18 in Mobile, Ala., and Oct. 22 in New Orleans.

Petroleo Brasileiro SA has completed the Lagosta exploration well on Block BES-2 off Brazil in the Espirito Santo basin, said partner Unocal Corp. The well had hydrocarbon shows. The National Petroleum Agency has extended the exploration term for the block for 2 years, said Unocal. Mobil Exploracao e Desenvolvimento do Brasil Ltda. is the other partner.

TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Co. has begun two nonexclusive 2D seismic survey programs in Indonesia that total 16,000 km. Circum Makassar (CM-01), in the Makassar Straits, is an 8,000-km program. The 8,000 km Matahari (MH-01) program is in the Arafura Sea of Indonesia and Australia.

Pemex Exploration & Production, a unit of Petroleos Mexicanos, has awarded Global Industries Ltd., Carlyss, La., a contract to install three 36-in. gas pipelines and one 30-in. gas pipeline in Cantarell field in the Bay of Campeche. Global Industries will begin procurement before yearend and begin offshore activities in 2002. The deal includes associated platform connection work.

Kerr-McGee du Maroc Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Kerr-McGee Corp., acquired an exclusive reconnaissance permit covering the Boujdour block off Morocco. The block covers more than 27 million acres along the Atlantic margin in water depths up to more than 10,000 ft.
