Energy trading platform TradeSpark LP, Dynegy Inc., and Williams Cos. Inc. are hosting a memorial service in Houston for employees of TradeSpark, Cantor Fitzgerald, and eSpeed Inc. who died in the attack on the World Trade Center in New York. The service will honor victims, survivors, and families of those companies at Aerial Theater, 520 Texas Ave., Monday Oct. 15 at 4:30 p.m.

Heritage Propane Partners LP, Tulsa, Okla., reported acquiring Virginia Gas Propane Co., Abingdon, Va. from NUI Corp., Bedminster, NJ. Virginia Gas serves 5,000 customers in nine counties in southwestern Virginia, marketing approximately 2.6 million gal/year of propane. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Mirant Corp., Atlanta, Ga., said it intends to acquire the majority of the gas marketing business of TransCanada PipeLines Ltd., Calgary. The transaction would add 5.1 bcfd to Mirant's natural gas physical marketing volumes, assuming 2000 marketing and trading volume numbers remain steady, the company said. Mirant said the transaction would immediately contribute to earnings. Terms were not disclosed.

Enbridge Inc., Calgary, Alta., said it will buy natural gas gathering, treating, and transmission assets in South Texas from a unit of Williams Cos. Inc., Tulsa, Okla., for $50 million. Enbridge will acquire 492 miles of gas mainlines and 298 miles of non-FERC regulated assets. Closing of the acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals, including approval by FERC to remove the mainlines from jurisdiction under the Natural Gas Act, Enbridge said.

Entergy Corp.'s 936 Mw River Bend nuclear station, St. Francisville, La., has been restarted after a 17-day refueling, a record for the unit, the company said. The company's 2001 average refueling outage to date is 23 days, 6 hr. Prior to the outage, the year-to-date capacity factor was at 100%.

PSEG Power, a unit of Public Service Enterprise Group Inc., Newark, NJ, filed an application with the New York State Public Service Commission for permission to construct and operate a dedicated eight mile transmission line that would deliver electric capacity to West Manhattan from a New Jersey generating station. Completion is projected in 2003.

The New York Power Authority said it agreed to sell $191.4 million of Series 2001 A Revenue Bonds. NYPA said proceeds from the sale, along with other available NYPA funds, will refund the Nov. 15, 2001, tenders of a portion of its taxable Series 1998 B Revenue Bonds in the principal amount of $198.4 million. Later this month, the NYPA said it take the last step in finalizing its debt refinancing with a forward sale of fixed-rate, tax-exempt Series 2002 A Revenue Bonds

Swiss Re New Markets Corp., a unit of Swiss Reinsurance Co., said it has signed an agreement with Mirant Corp., Atlanta, Ga., to provide generator forced outage insurance. The venture will focus on investor-owned utilities, municipals, and cooperatives with less than 2,000 Mw of generating capacity, and independent power producers with less than 3,000 Mw of capacity in North America. Mirant Bermuda Ltd., an affiliate of Mirant, will assume a portion of the risk through reinsurance.

Plug Power Inc., Latham, NY, reported receiving a $1.2 million award from the US Army Corps of Engineers, Construction Engineering Research Laboratory to supply 10 fuel cells to the Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet, NY. Installations of the fuel cell systems are scheduled to be completed in December.

Duke Energy North America, a unit of Duke Energy Corp., Charlotte, NC, reported start of construction on a $300 million 600 Mw electric power generating facility in Grays Harbor County, Wash.. The project is expected to begin supplying the wholesale market by mid-2003. Northwest Pipeline will extend its existing mainline system to the project site to provide fuel for the facility.

The city of Fort Worth has chosen TXU Energy Services as its electric service provider in an agreement valued at more than $15 million over 17 months, the TXU Corp. unit said. TXU Energy Services also operates and maintains twin 5.2 Mw generators at Fort Worth's Village Creek wastewater treatment plant.

A unit of ABB AS, Zurich, Switzerland, reported winning won a $ 360 million order to build a 940 km high-voltage direct current power transmission system linking hydropower plants in central China to Guangdong province. The order includes two power converter stations, 28 power transformers, and six smoothing reactors to reduce current fluctuations in the system. The two-stage project will be delivered in 32 months.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission authorized Williams to reactivate liquefied natural gas (LNG) import facilities at Cove Point LNG terminal in Lusby, Md. The reactivation modifications to the existing terminal and construction of new facilities. Construction of a fifth storage tank increasing the facility's storage capacity by more than 50%. FERC also authorized Cove Point's request to construct interconnection facilities to establish a connection with the Transco pipeline system to be constructed under Cove Point's blanket certificate.
