HOUSTON, Sept. 28 -- Statoil has begun producing gas from Gullfaks South field via the Gullfaks C platform in the North Sea.

The additional gas flow was the latest stage in the Gullfaks satellites phase II development project.

The first well came on stream Sept. 16 and four are now producing. Volumes will vary for 2 weeks while the processing equipment at Gullfaks C is tested.

Gullfaks satellites phase II is developing Gullfaks South and Rimfaks fields. Flow from Gullfaks South will build to 10 million cu m/day. The satellites are on blocks 34/10 and 33/12.

This volume will increase to 17 million cu m/day from the autumn of 2003. Until then, the A platform will be modified in order to receive gas from both Gullfaks South and Rimfaks. The platform will then contribute about 4 million cu m/day from the total gas output from the satellite fields.
