HOUSTON, Sept. 21 -- Spinnaker Exploration Co., Houston, has a discovery at its Resolute prospect on High Island Block 197 off Texas.
High Island 197 No. 1, in 48 ft of water 35 miles southeast of Galveston, was drilled to 13,956 ft and found 140 ft TVD of "high quality" hydrocarbon-bearing zones in two intervals in the Miocene Robulus sequence.
The well has been completed. Spinnaker said it "appears capable of sustaining high flow rates" but did not reveal any specifics.
Spinnaker and its partners plan additional drilling around Resolute in the fourth quarter.
Platform engineering and production facility design is ongoing, said the company.
Operator Spinnaker owns 50% working interest in the block (42% net revenue interest). Continental Land & Fur Co., Houston has a 25% working interest and Westport Resources Corp., Denver, has 25%.
