HOUSTON, Sept. 26 -- Repsol YPF has begun gas-condensate production at Quiriquire field in Monagas State, western Venezuela.

In February Repsol signed an agreement with Petroleos de Venezuela to produce gas from the field, which already was making 13,000 b/d of oil.

Reserves in the field are 145 million boe. The first development phase for gas-condensate consisted of the repair and upgrading of existing wells, the revamping of the separation and compression plant, and the construction of a 26 km gas pipeline to the PDVSA facilities in Orocual.

Gas production has begun at 2.1 million cu m/day and is due to reach 7.6 million when the development is completed by 2002.

Repsol operates Quiriquire, Quiamare-La Ceiba, Mene Grande, and Western Guarico fields, with a current production of 37,000 b/d of oil, to which 45,000 boed will be added from the Quiriquire gas project when it reaches full output.
