Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC has awarded Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., Houston, a contract for front end engineering and design services for upgrading the fluid catalytic cracking capability at the 222,000-b/d Catlettsburg, Ky., refinery. Work is due to be finished in the fourth quarter of 2003. Value of the contract was not disclosed.

Conoco Inc. has selected Jacobs to perform supplemental maintenance, turnarounds, and minor capital construction work at its four US refineries and its research and development center. Jacobs will be the single general contractor for all the plants.

Ruhr Oel GmbH, a joint venture of Petroleos de Venezuela SA and Veba Oel, has installed an ultra-low sulfur fluid catalytic cracking unit at its 246,000-b/d refinery in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The unit makes 18,500 b/d of cracked gasoline of less than 10 ppm sulfur.

Stone & Webster Co., Houston, and JGC Corp. of Japan have agreed to jointly pursue ethylene projects, formalizing a long-standing business relationship.
