KARACHI, Sept. 5 -- A joint venture led by Petronas Carigali (Pakistan) Ltd. has tested a well at a maximum rate of 25.6 MMcfd of gas near Sukkur in Sindh province, Pakistan.

Partners with Petronas Carigali, an affiliate of the Malaysian state oil company, are Lasmo Oil Pakistan Ltd. and Government Holdings (Pvt.) Ltd.

The "encouraging" Rehmat-1 well on block 2769-4 (Mubarak Block) was spudded May 25 and reached 3,536 m TD July 21. It is 65 km east of Sukkur.

The well penetrated gas column in the Lower Goru sand. It found no gas-water contact. The partners are preparing a detailed analysis of the gas; preliminary analysis indicates low carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide content.

The companies plan more seismic surveys and could drill more wells. Petronas Carigali is the operator of the block with 57% interest, while Lasmo has 38% and Government Holdings 5%.
