PetroChina to build three catalytic reforming units and six hydrotreaters

PetroChina Co. Ltd. plans to build a number of secondary refining units in the next 5 years as part of an effort to restructure its downstream division. The company plans to build three catalytic reforming units and six hydrotreating units at its refineries in the northeast and northwest.

BEIJING, Aug. 7 -- PetroChina Co. Ltd. plans to build a number of secondary refining units in the next 5 years as part of an effort to restructure its downstream division.

The company plans to build three catalytic reforming units and six hydrotreating units at its refineries in the northeast and northwest.

The nameplate capacities of the three catalytic reformers are: 600,000 tonnes/year at Jinxi Petrochemical Corp.; 600,000 tonnes/year at Dalian Petrochemical Corp.; and 300,000 tonnes/year at Daqing Petrochemical Corp., all in the northeast.

The capacities of the six diesel hydrotreating units are: 400,000 tonnes/year at Liaohe oil field petrochemical plant; 500,000 tonnes/year at Huabei oil field refinery; 1.2 million tonnes/year at Fushun Petrochemical Corp.; 1 million tonnes/year at Jinxi Petrochemical Corp.; 500,000 tonnes/year at Yumen refinery; and 450,000 tonnes/year at Karamay petrochemical plant in the northwest.

PetroChina also plans to close a number of refineries by 2005 with a combined capacity of 16 million tonnes (OGJ Online, July 31, 2001).
