HOUSTON, Aug. 15 -- Canada's National Energy Board, Calgary, said Tuesday it has established a mediation process to resolve landowner objections during detailed route hearings for oil and gas pipelines and power lines.
In January NEB sought comment on its proposed Mediation Practice Direction from various landowners, landowner representatives, and industry stakeholders. It also requested comments and suggestions for using alternative dispute resolution tools for other types of applications considered by the board.
NEB said that due to the overall support from most of the respondents, it has decided to implement a voluntary mediation process at the detailed route stage of its permitting proceedings.
"This will provide an alternative method for landowners and companies to resolve disputes over the detailed routes of pipelines and power lines," NEB said.
