HOUSTON, Aug. 20 -- Cairn Energy PLC has tested one zone in its well on Prospect P on Block KG-DWN-98/2 off Andhra Pradesh, Eastern India.
P is the third find in the block.
Previously, Cairn said DWN-P-1 reached 2,585 m TD and found two hydrocarbon-bearing units. The first was a gas cap with a thin oil leg; the deeper second unit was a thin gas column with an estimated 75-m oil column (OGJ Online, Aug. 3, 2001).
An upper zone, a 17-m gross interval of thinly laminated sandstone and shale, was perforated and flowed 3,648 b/d of oil at a flowing wellhead pressure of 1,020 psi on a 40/64-in. choke with a gas oil ratio of 751 scf/bbl.
Cairn then perforated a deeper 7-m interval of sandstone to test both zones together. Because of technical difficulties, testing could not be carried out, but the company said data indicate the interval should test at higher rates than the other zone.
The Marine 500 drilling rig will now move to drill R-2, an appraisal well on the Annapurna (R) gas discovery, located approximately 12.5 km southeast of the P discovery.
