HOUSTON, July 23 -- Shell Exploration BV, through a contractor joint venture, has awarded French company Technip SA an engineering and procurement contract for the development of the Soroosh and Nowrooz fields off Iran.
Shell awarded the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation contract to a joint venture of Naft Sazeh Qeshm of Iran and Saudi Arabia's National Petroleum Construction Co. The joint venture awarded the engineering and procurement contract to Technip.
Under its contract, Technip will carry out design, engineering, and procurement activities with NPCC for permanent production facilities, including three production platforms, two living quarters platforms, two wellhead platforms, and pipelines and cables.
Shell, through an agreement with National Iranian Oil Co., is managing the integrated development of the two fields. It expects output of 190,000 b/d in 2003.
Soroosh is in the Persian Gulf, 80 km southwest of Kharg Island. Nowrooz is in northwest Persian Gulf, 50 km north of Soroosh. Both fields are in 30-40 m of water.
Jean Deseilligny, senior executive vice-president, business and operations, of Technip, said: "Following the award of the FEED [front-end engineering design] contract for the Shah Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan just a few weeks ago, this project is another strong signal of the current intense interest in the development of major offshore oil and gas fields worldwide."
