HOUSTON, July 27 -- SCANA Corp., Columbia, SC, has formed a subsidiary, SCG Pipeline Inc., to transport natural gas in Georgia and South Carolina.

SCG Pipeline will move gas from interconnections with Southern Natural Gas Co. and Southern LNG Co.'s Elba Island liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal near Savannah, Ga. The company is evaluating potential pipeline routes for an end point in Jasper County, SC.

Berry Gibbes, SCG Pipeline president, said, "Natural gas from the Elba facility will play an important role in the region by providing access to a new natural gas supply source to an economy with a growing demand for this product."

SCG Pipeline has an agreement with SCANA Energy Marketing Inc. to transport 190,000 decatherms/day of gas.

SCG Pipeline is conducting an open season for other potential customers until Aug. 24. It plans to file for Federal Energy Regulatory Commission certification of the pipeline in the fall. The proposed in-service date for the project is November 2003.
