BEIJING, July 19 -- PetroChina Co. has a natural gas discovery in Tarim basin in northwestern China.

The discovery well Ake-1 was drilled to 3,341 m. It flowed 139,000 cu m/day on an 8-mm choke.

Located in the southwestern part of the basin on the Kashi trough, the discovery marks one of the largest at Tarim since 1977.

PetroChina was processing geological data on the trough. It plans further exploration activities this year before putting the field into development.
