HOUSTON, July 5 -- Chevron Corp. said it made a seventh find on Angola Block 14 with Tombua field.
The discovery well, in 925 ft of water 19 miles south of Kuito field, was drilled to 10,535 ft depth. It tested 10,022 b/d of 39°-gravity crude from two zones.
The company and its partners are beginning geologic and engineering studies to appraise Tombua.
Earlier discoveries in the block include Kuito, Landana, Benguela, Belize, Tomboco, and Lobito.
John Gass, managing director of Chevron's Southern Africa strategic business unit, said, "We intend to continue our approach of quickly moving the Block 14 discoveries into production, a commitment reflected in Chevron's and its partners' investment plans for Angola, which will total more than $6 billion over the next 5 years."
Chevron's Angola unit, Cabinda Gulf Oil Co., operates the block with 31% interest; South African state company Sonangol, Eni SPA unit Agip Angola, and TotalFinaElf SA unit TotalFinaElf Angola each hold 20%; and Petrogal owns 9%.
