Atwood orders newbuild jack up from Keppel FELS

Atwood Oceanics Inc., Houston, has ordered a $125 million newbuild jack up rig from Keppel FELS Ltd., Singapore. Keppel FELS should complete construction of the rig in June 2003.

HOUSTON, July 25 -- Atwood Oceanics Inc., Houston, has ordered a $125 million newbuild jack up rig from Keppel FELS Ltd., Singapore.

The unit will be able to work in up to 350 ft of water and will include a 70-ft cantilever, three 2,200-hp mud pumps, a self-positioning fixation system, and accommodations for 112 beds.

It is the third in a series of jack ups built to that design; the other two are being built for Chiles Offshore LLC, Houston.

Keppel FELS should complete construction in June 2003.

Atwood said the order will be financed through its existing credit facility and cash on hand.
