HOUSTON, June 21 -- A unit of Williams, Tulsa, said it is holding an open season for natural gas transportation capacity to be created by the Cornerstone Expansion Project.

This is the fourth pipeline expansion project announced this week by the pipeline giant.

The other projects were Leidy East, which will offer 130,000 dekatherms/day of firm gas transportation services from Leidy, Pa., to the northeastern US; Western Frontier Pipeline LLC, which would carry up to 540,000 dekatherms/day from the Cheyenne Hub in northeastern Colorado to Williams' Central pipeline system in southwest Kansas, Oklahoma, and markets along the proposed pipeline; and Northwest Pipeline system, which would deliver 276 MMcfd of gas to new electric generation facilities in Washington state.

The Cornerstone project will expand the existing Transco pipeline system from Louisiana to Virginia (OGJ Online, Apr. 12, 2001).

Williams said facilities, final capacity, and rates for the project will be determined by market interest. The season ends July 18.

The company plans to file with the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to build the project during the fourth quarter of 2001 and the first quarter 2002.

The projected in-service dates are Nov. 1, 2003, and May 1, 2004.
