Williams asks FERC to approve expansion of northeastern gas pipeline

A Williams unit has applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to construct the Leidy East project, which will provide an additional 130,000 dekatherms/day of firm gas transportation services. The Leidy East project will provide services from Leidy, Pa., to the northeastern US.

HOUSTON, June 20 -- A Williams unit has applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to construct the Leidy East project, which will provide an additional 130,000 dekatherms/day of firm gas transportation services to the northeastern US.

If approved, the Leidy East project will expand the Williams system from Leidy, Pa., to the northeastern US. It would involve constructing six pipeline loops, totaling 31 miles, and adding 3,400 hp of compression in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2002. Williams anticipates the Leidy East facilities to be in service by November 2002.

Williams' gas pipeline unit is is based in Houston and has offices in Salt Lake City and Owensboro, Ky.
