TrueNorth applies to build Fort Hills oil sands project

TrueNorth Energy Corp., Calgary, has filed with the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board for approval of its Fort Hills Oil Sands project 90 km north of Fort McMurray, Alta.

HOUSTON, June 25 -- TrueNorth Energy Corp., Calgary, has filed with the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board for approval of its Fort Hills oil sands project 90 km north of Fort McMurray, Alta.

It has also submitted an environmental impact assessment and applications with two other regulatory agencies. The EIA will be reviewed at the same time as the applications.

If all regulatory bodies approve the applications and the assessment, work on the mine is expected to begin in 2002. Production is expected to reach 95,000 b/d of bitumen in 2005 and 190,000 b/d in 2008 (OGJ Online, Jan. 12, 2001).

UTS Energy Corp. holds 22% in Fort Hills. TrueNorth Energy LP, an affiliate of Koch Petroleum Canada LP, operates the project with 78%.
