HOUSTON, June 25 -- Plains All American Pipeline LP, Houston, plans to expand its Cushing, Okla., terminal facility capacity by 1.1 million bbl, bringing total capacity to 4.2 million bbl.
Plains All American will award the contracts for the $11 million project in the next 2 months, and construction will begin shortly thereafter. Four tanks, each with 270,000 bbl capacity, should be in service by mid-2002.
The company has received the required permits from regulatory agencies.
This expansion brings the company's total storage capacity, including some recently acquired in Canada, to more than 10 million bbl.
Greg L. Armstrong, chairman and CEO of Plains All American, said, "This expansion project will enable us to better service the needs of our existing customers and position us to handle the ever increasing varieties and grades of crude oil in Cushing. ... This added tank capacity will help to ensure the continued flow of crude oil to Midwestern refineries where it is converted into petroleum products for the American consumer. "
