Texaco Inc. and its partner Agip SPA said a delineation sidetrack well has confirmed the Champlain deepwater discovery, 160 miles south of New Orleans on Atwater Valley Block 63. Champlain No. 1, sidetrack 2, bypass 1, was drilled to 25,367 ft TD on June 1. It found more than 400 ft of net pay, extending the proven oil accumulation both laterally and downdip, said Texaco. Agip operates the current sidetrack, while Texaco is the prospect operator for blocks 63 and 64 with 50%.

Canoro Resources Ltd., Calgary, intends to reprocess existing seismic data, acquire at least 50 km of new seismic, and reevaluate an existing gas well on its AA-ON/7 Block in Assam State, India. Canoro's Canadian Consortium has a 65% working interest and will operate the 1,934 sq km block. Assam Co. Ltd. holds 35%.

Spain's Repsol Exploracion Peru is testing sands in the Guineayacu-32-36-1X exploration well in Peruvian northern jungle block 32, in the Marañon basin, after failing to find oil during drilling. Canadian Superior Energy Inc., Calgary, has a discovery in the Earring area of Northwest Alberta. LSD 11-6-83-8 W6M tested at 1-2.89 MMcfd of gas, with an average stabilized rate of 2.28 MMcfd. At Earring, Canadian Superior holds 60%. A well at an undisclosed location in Central Alberta tested at 1-3.2 MMcfd, Canadian Superior said. Santos Ltd. said Corowa-1 on the Australian WA-264-P license flowed 839 cu m/day of oil through a 19-mm choke at flowing wellhead pressure of 880 psia from 1,549-1,560 m in the Barrow Group sand. The oil flow was accompanied by 2.28 MMcfd of gas with no water. Corowa-1 is in 84 m of water, 40 km west of the Thevenard Island production facility and 24 km south of Griffin field. Santos' partner in the license is Idemitsu Oil Exploration (Barrow) Pty. Ltd., with 33.33%.

The gas contains more than 40 bbl/MMcf of liquids.
