HOUSTON, June 20 -- BP PLC and Texaco Inc. have an oil discovery on the Blind Faith prospect on Mississippi Canyon Block 696 in the Gulf of Mexico.

No details about the well or the discovery were given, and BP did not say whether the field was commercial.

Blind Faith is in 7,000 ft of water. BP operates the block with 77.5%, and Texaco holds the rest.

The Diamond Offshore Drilling Co. semisubmersible Ocean Confidence drilled the well deeper than 25,000 ft.

The reservoir covers parts of Block 696 and 695, which are 20 miles east of BP's 1 billion bbl Crazy Horse discovery on Mississippi Canyon Block 778.
