HOUSTON, May 23 -- Williams, Tulsa, said Tuesday electrical problems took a 72,000 b/d fluidized catalytic cracking unit out of service at its Memphis, Tenn., refinery. Repairs were expected to take about a week.
The cat cracking unit was shut down on Sunday, May 20.
John Yeager, Williams Refining & Marketing LLC director, said the shutdown reduced throughput at the Memphis refinery by roughly 30% of its 180,000 b/d crude capacity.
Last year Williams completed a $123 million expansion that added a continuous catalyst regeneration reforming unit, boosting the refinery's production capacity.
The Williams plant, the only petroleum refinery in Tennessee, produces gasoline, jet fuel, diesel fuel, propane, and other specialty products. Since 1990, production capacity at the refinery has increased more than 160%.
