HOUSTON, May 15 -- Norsk Hydro AS has awarded Aker Maritime AS a 500 million kroner ($55.1 million) contract to provide a production module for the Fram West development in the Norwegian North Sea.

Aker will provide engineering and construction services for the module, which will process both oil and gas from Fram West, and install it on Troll C. Before the installation, Aker will also carry out necessary modifications to the platform.

Fram West is due on stream in October 2003.

Aker Technology developed the chosen concept. "By placing all the production equipment for Fram West in one module, the extent of commissioning at delivery has been increased. This has reduced the scope of work offshore," Aker said.

Several Aker units will be involved in the effort, including Aker Engineering, Aker Stord, Aker Elektro, and Aker Offshore Partner.
