HOUSTON, May 22 -- SulphCo. Inc., Reno, Nev., and partners have agreed to build an 11,000 b/d desulfurization unit at a refinery near Genoa, Italy, to demonstrate SulphCo.'s proprietary technology.

The company said the unit, to be installed in the 35,000 b/d IPLOM SPA refinery at Busalla, can reduce sulfur content in diesel fuel and fuel oil products by more than 95% to 5-10 ppm.

SulphCo. and a group of Italian business partners have formed joint venture Innovative Clean Technologies SA to market to other refineries and implement the SulphCo. technology in Italy. SulphCo owns 75% of the company.

Clean Technologies will market the technology, provide engineering expertise for installation, and provide maintenance services.

IPLOM is a refiner and distributor of diesel fuel and fuel oil products in northern Italy. It is purchasing the desulfurization unit and paying for installation costs.
