CALGARY, May 7 -- Gulf Indonesia Resources Ltd. and partners report the Suban-5 delineation well in the Corridor Block production sharing contract area in South Sumatra flowed on initial testing at a rate of 31 MMcfd of natural gas.
The test was conducted on pre-Tertiary formations between 7,871 and 9,623 ft through a 3/4-in. choke at 2,800 psi.
Gulf said the results are similar to the Suban-3 well, 2.3 miles to the southeast. Additional testing of Suban-5 is underway.
In December, Gulf Indonesia said Suban-4, which tested at 80 MMcfd of gas and 420 b/d of condensate from three perforated sections, had the highest flow rate of any well it had drilled in Indonesia.
The Suban-6 test, in the central region of the field, was spudded Apr. 12 and completion is scheduled for the second quarter. Two more Suban step-outs are planned in 2001.
"With approximately 1.1 tcf of gas from the Suban field dedicated to the Caltex 11 gas sales contract, we are continuing the delineation program to determine the magnitude of reserves that will be available for the next tranche of potential new sizeable domestic and international sales contracts," said Gulf Indonesia Pres. and CEO Bill Fanagan.
"We feel the Suban field has the potential to be 4 tcf or more in size, which could support additional gas sales of 550 MMcfd from the Corridor Block over and above the current contracted amounts."
Gulf Indonesia, a unit of Gulf Canada Resources Ltd., has a 54% interest in the Corridor Block and is operator. Partners are Talisman (Corridor) Ltd. with 36% and Pertamina with 10%.
