BP PLC's Aspen discovery on Green Canyon Block 243 in deepwater Gulf of Mexico has estimated reserves of 150 million boe, said block partner Nexen Inc., Calgary. The company said exploratory tests drilled by the Ocean Victory semisubmersible in 3,150 ft of water confirmed net pay of 490 ft.

Touchstone Resources USA Inc., Houston, said it has spudded the North Hell Hole prospect in Vermilion Bay, Vermilion Parish, La. The prospect underlies the production at Redfish Point field to the north and of Hell Hole Bayou field to the south. North Hell Hole is in 6-10 ft of water.

Woodside Petroleum Ltd.'s Chinguetti-1 exploration well being drilled off Mauritania reached a TD of 2620 m, having intersected several oil bearing sandstones over a gross hydrocarbon interval of 86m, partner Fusion Oil & Gas PLC has reported. The UK independent said wireline logs were being run on this primary objective.
