BANGKOK, May 30 -- The Thai operating branch of Chevron Corp is embarking on a $180 million plan to build and install six minimum facilities platforms on Block B8/32 in the Gulf of Thailand.
Chevron Offshore Thailand awarded the fabrication contract to Chiwan Sembawang Engineering Co., Singapore, and China Offshore Oil Engineering Co. They are under construction at a CSE yard at Shekou, China.
Chevron will install one at Maliwan field starting in July (with completion set for October) and three others later at Benchamas. Chevron has not decided where to place the other two, but expects them to be installed in the first half 2002.
Each platform can handle 50 MMcfd of gas, 8,000 b/d of oil, and 5,000 b/d of water. Each has five wellhead slots, each capable of supporting a triple completion wellhead.
They are designed for 220-240 ft water depths. The deck weighs 300 tonnes, the jacket 500 tonnes, and the association piles and drilling conductors 600 tonnes.
Chevron said the platforms are more economical, efficient, and safer than conventional platforms and are reusable.
