Canadian board approves Enbridge oil pipeline expansion

The National Energy Board, Calgary, has approved an application by Enbridge Pipelines Inc. of Edmonton to build the second phase of its Terrace Expansion Program. The $140 million (Can.) expansion will increase pipeline capacity by 43,400 b/d.

HOUSTON, May 16 -- The National Energy Board, Calgary, has approved an application by Enbridge Pipelines Inc. of Edmonton to build the second phase of its Terrace Expansion Program.

The $140 million (Can.) expansion will increase pipeline capacity by 43,400 b/d. Completion is expected late this year.

The company plans to construct 123 km of 36-in. oil pipeline over three segments between Hardisty, Alta., and Kerrobert, Sask.

The energy board approved the first phase of work in 1998. Approval for the second phase followed a public hearing in Calgary Mar. 19-20.
