Viet Nam's Rang Dong field flow climbs to 55,000 b/d

Conoco Inc. said Monday the latest development well in Rang Dong field off Viet Nam was completed for 10,000-b/d. The 15P well on Block 15-2 boosted field output to 55,000 b/d, a production milestone. Block 15-2 is in 165 ft of water in the Cuu Long basin.

HOUSTON, Apr. 23 -- Conoco Inc. said Monday the latest development well in Rang Dong field off Viet Nam was completed for 10,000-b/d.

The 15P well on Block 15-2 boosted field output to 55,000 b/d, a production milestone.

Block 15-2 is in 165 ft of water in the Cuu Long basin, 120 miles (180 km) southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. The block covers 400,000 acres and is near Bach Ho and Ruby fields.

Conoco holds a 36% interest in Block 15-2. Other partners are Japan Vietnam Petroleum Co. Ltd., the operator with 46.5%, and Petrovietnam with 17.5%.

On neighboring Block 15-1, Conoco and its partners have completed and are testing their appraisal well for the Sutu Den discovery made last year.

Conoco holds more acreage than any other foreign energy company in Viet Nam, with interests in five offshore blocks totaling more than 5.75 million acres. Since 1996, Conoco has invested more than $200 million in Viet Nam's oil and gas industry, and plans to invest $500 million over the next several years.
