BEIJING, Apr. 11 -- Sinopec Star Petroleum Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of China Petrochemical Corp., has a gas discovery in the East China Sea.
Tianwaitian-3 tested 683,000 cu m/day of gas and 28 cu m/day of condensate late last month.
The well is 400 km southeast of Shanghai. It is part of the Xihu Sag, where Sinopec Star and China National Offshore Oil Corp. are conducting joint exploration and development.
The well was drilled to 3,760 m MD and found more than 10 gas pay zones.
Sinopec Star has drilled 32 exploration wells in the Xihu Sag of the East China Sea over the last 2 decades, with 21 reported oil and gas flows, leading to the discovery of eight oil and gas bearing structures with confirmed gas reserves of 240 billion cu m.
The company's largest discovery in the Xihu Sag is on Chunxiao block, where Sinopec Star has drilled six wells, with four hitting commercial gas.
With 60 billion cu m of gas reserves, Chunxiao is slated to supply gas to Zhejiang province in the eastern China.
