HOUSTON, Apr. 18 -- Australian company Santos Ltd. has made its third field discovery this year in the Victorian sector of the Otway basin.
Croft-1 wildcat on exploration permit 154 was drilled to 2,529 m TD. It found a 60-m gross gas column in the Cretaceous Waarre Sand at 2,025-2,085 m.
The company is evaluating logs, but said indications are the net gas pay is 34 m.
Croft-1 will be cased and suspended as a future gas producer. It will likely produce 10-15 TJ/day, estimates Santos.
Commenting, Santos Managing Director John Ellice-Flint said, "The well is the fifth Santos-operated success in the area and follows on from the recent successes at McIntee-1 and Tregony-1. Croft-1 continues Santos' 100% success rate in PEP's 153 and 154."
The well is 7 km south of the recent McIntee-1 gas discovery and 16 km west of the Heytesbury Gas Facility.
Santos operates the well with a 90% share and Beach Petroleum NL owns 10%.
