Petrogal awards desulfurization contract for Sines refinery

Portuguese refining company Petrogal has awarded a 23 million euro contract to Fluor Daniel, a unit of Fluor Corp., for the engineering, procurement, and construction of a hydrogen desulfurization facility in Portugal.

HOUSTON, Apr. 27 -- Portuguese refining company Petrogal has awarded a 23 million euro contract to Fluor Daniel, a unit of Fluor Corp., for the engineering, procurement, and construction of a hydrogen desulfurization facility in Portugal.

The contract, part of an upgrade at Petrogal�s 212,895-b/d Sines refinery, is Fluor�s first lump-sum turnkey job in Portugal and its first contract with Petrogal.

The plant will produce gasoline that will comply with European Commission regulations.

Engineering for the project began in November 2000, with construction commencing in March. The project should be complete in first quarter 2002.

Petrogal is based in Lisbon and is owned by Galp Energia shareholders.
