    Petrobras increases its gas reserves in Bolivia by 54%

    Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) said its natural gas reserves in the San Alberto and San Antonio fields in Bolivia increased 54% between 1999 and 2000. On Dec. 31, 2000, Petrobras registered reserves of 462 billion cu m in both fields, including proven and probable reserves. On Dec. 31, 1999, the reserves were 300 billion cu m.

    RIO DE JANEIRO, Apr. 5�Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) said its natural gas reserves in the San Alberto and San Antonio fields in Bolivia increased 54% between 1999 and 2000.

    Last Dec. 31, Petrobras registered reserves of 462 billion cu m in both fields, including proven and probable reserves. On Dec. 31, 1999, the reserves were 300 billion cu m. The reserves expansion was verified through the drilling of new wells and increasing the depths of existing wells.

    Jose Fernando de Freitas, Petrobras' executive manager for international gas, power, and engineering said gas condensates in both fields increased from 180.4 million bbl to 239.8 million bbl, an increase of 33%.

    Petrobras Bolivia operates the consortium that exploits the San Alberto and San Antonio blocks. Petrobras Bolivia has a 35% interest; Petrolera Andina, 50%, and TotalFinaElf SA, 15%.
