Jilin to expand Chinese ethylbenzene plant

Jilin Chemical Industrial Co., an affiliate of PetroChina Co. Ltd., has awarded ABB Lummus Global, an affiliate of ABB Group, a contract to expand an ethylbenzene plant in Jilin City, China.

HOUSTON, Apr. 3�Jilin Chemical Industrial Co., an affiliate of PetroChina Co. Ltd., has awarded ABB Lummus Global, an affiliate of ABB Group, a contract to expand an ethylbenzene plant in Jilin City, China.

ABB originally designed the plant, which came on stream in 1998.

ABB Lummus Global will expand capacity to 160,000 tonnes/year from the current 105,000 tonnes.

ABB and Jilin Design Institute will work together on the basic engineering of the plant revamp.

The expanded plant will go on stream in the fall of this year.

Jilin last year also said it would expand an ethylene cracker in Jilin province to 600,000 tonnes/year capacity from 300,000 (OGJ Online, Nov. 10, 2000).
