Algeria seeks bids to develop five Illizi basin fields

The Algerian Energy and Mines Ministry and state oil company Sonatrach is launching an international bidding round for the development of five oil and gas fields in the prolific Illizi basin in the eastern Sahara. It plans to open the sealed tender bids on Mar. 31 and sign with the successful bidders by Apr. 15.

HOUSTON, Apr. 30 -- The Algerian Energy and Mines Ministry and state oil company Sonatrach is launching an international bidding round for the development of five oil and gas fields in the prolific Illizi basin in the eastern Sahara.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries news agency said the round includes development of Zarzaitine and el Abed Larache oil fields, Tinrhert and Rhourde Nouss gas fields, and the exploration and development of fields in the southeastern Illizi basin.

The ministry said the bid round process would include a technical proposal stage and an economic proposal stage.

At a presentation on the projects May 9, the ministry also will brief interested parties on Algerian reforms and their effect on the energy sector.

The ministry will evaluate the technical proposals and respond to bidders before Dec. 30. It plans to open the sealed tender bids on Mar. 31 and sign with the successful bidders by Apr. 15.
