US firms to develop 240 gas wells in Mexico�s Burgos basin

BJ Services Co. and Precision Drilling Corp. said Tuesday that Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has awarded them a development contract to drill and complete 240 gas wells in the Burgos basin. The basin covers more than 50,000 sq km in the northeastern Mexico near Camargo.

HOUSTON, Mar. 13�BJ Services Co. and Precision Drilling Corp. said Tuesday that Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has awarded them a contract to drill and complete 240 gas wells in the Burgos basin.

The basin covers more than 50,000 sq km in the northeastern Mexico near Camargo. The civil construction of roads and drilling locations, pipeline installation, and tie-in work will be subcontracted through the partnered project.

The US firms said work will begin in mid-May and will take 2 years to complete. The total value of the project will be $270 million with BJ and Precision revenues estimated at $70 to $80 million each.

BJ Services will provide cementing, fracturing, and coiled tubing services while Precision Drilling's services will include drilling, wireline, logging, and directional drilling.
