HOUSTON, Mar. 28The Texas Railroad Commission, Austin, said Wednesday it will join with Huston-Tillotson College to make the commissions exploration and production data available to producers via the internet.

Chairman Michael Williams said the commission and the Austin college plan to apply to the US Department of Commerce for a grant that would finance the project.

TRC said access to information on Texas oil and gas wells is limited due to the volume (30 million pieces of paper), multiple retrieval systems, and its physical location in Austin.

Once the project is complete, remote users will be able to retrieve valuable oil and gas information using a PC, standard web-based browser, and the Internet, it said.

The college will establish a computer training facility at its Community Engagement Center. The college will recruit participants from East Austin who will be trained in the various documents used by the oil and gas industry, data entry necessary for document indexing, and the development of business and workforce skills.
