HOUSTON, Mar. 15�Pogo Producing Co. said Thursday its Main Pass 61 No. 2 exploratory well discovered oil, as did its Ewing Bank 871 No. 4 well. Production from both fields is expected by the end of the year.
Pogo has 100% of the Main Pass 61 No. 2 well and in Main Pass Blocks 61/62 field. The Main Pass 61 No. 2 wildcat was drilled to 11,424 ft TD and discovered 91 feet of oil pay.
An upcoming well will test another structural closure 3 miles southwest of the No. 2 well, as part of an exploratory and development drilling program on Main Pass Blocks 61 and 62.
A four-pile, twelve-slot jacket is under construction and slated for installation in the second quarter on the Main Pass 61 No. 1 discovery well. An oil production facility with a capacity of 20,000 b/d will be installed in November.
Pogo also said Ewing Bank 871 No. 4 penetrated 195 ft of gross oil column in an interval below 10,000 ft. A second oil-bearing zone encountered below 11,000 ft is under evaluation.
The No. 4 well will be linked with the recently drilled Ewing Bank 871 No. 1 and No. 3 wells. All the wells are slated to produce from a subsea production facility with the oil to be piped to a nearby platform.
Pogo has a 50% interest in the new Ewing Bank Blocks 871/872 field. Walter Oil & Gas Corp. is operator with 40% and Continental Land & Fur Co. Inc. has 10%.
