HOUSTON, Mar. 15--Platte Pipe Line Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Energy Company Ltd., Calgary, has added a shipping connection in Nebraska that opens new oil markets in Kansas for Canadian and US shippers on the Express/Platte pipeline system.

Crude oil began flowing this week into the Jayhawk Pipeline via the new connection at Holdrege, Neb. With this connection, the Express pipeline system can transport oil from Western Canada and the US Rocky Mountain region to supply Kansas-area refineries.

"This added connection provides Kansas region refineries with a new, alternative source of crude oil," said Bernie Bradley, Platte president.

The Express pipeline system, which includes the Platte pipeline, originates at Hardisty, Alta., a major hub for western Canadian oil production.

The 1,700-mile Express network connects Canadian and US producers to refineries in the Rocky Mountain and Midwest regions. Platte moves Canadian and US crude oil from Casper, Wyo., where it connects to Express Pipeline, to delivery locations at Guernsey, Wyo., Salisbury, Mo., and Wood River, Ill., in addition to the new connection at Holdrege.
