HOUSTON, Mar. 6�Murphy Oil Corp. awarded J. Ray McDermott Inc. a turnkey contract to provide a spar-type floating production system for the Medusa Project in the Gulf of Mexico. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
The natural gas discovery is expected to be on stream by the fourth quarter 2002. The production facility will be in 2,223 ft of water on Mississippi Canyon Blocks 582 in the Gulf of Mexico.
The floating production system will have the capacity to handle 40,000 b/d of crude and 110 MMcfd of gas. The spar's hull will be built in McDermott's Jebel Ali Fabrication yard in the United Arab Emirates.
The topsides will be prefabricated at McDermott's TNG facility in Veracruz, Mexico, then assembled and outfitted at McDermott's Harbor Island fabrication yard near Corpus Christi, Tex.
SparTEC, a McDermott subsidiary, will act as the general contractor and overall project manager for the Medusa offshore production facility. SparTEC will be responsible for design engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation and commission of the offshore production facility.
Murphy Oil Corp. operates Medusa with 60% working interest; Agip Petroleum Co. Inc., an affiliate of Italian company Eni SPA, holds 25%, and Callon Petroleum Co., Natchez, Miss., 15%.
