Gulf Indonesia announces test of discovery off East Java

Gulf Indonesia Resources Ltd., a subsidiary of the Calgary-based Gulf Canada Resources Ltd., plans to drill two more prospects in the Ketapang production sharing contract based upon test results from the Bukit Tua-1 oil discovery off East Java. The well flowed at 2,800 b/d of oil.

HOUSTON, Mar. 27�Gulf Indonesia Resources Ltd., a subsidiary of the Calgary-based Gulf Canada Resources Ltd., plans to drill two more prospects in the Ketapang production sharing contract based upon test results from the BukitTua-1 oil discovery off East Java.

A test of a cased interval between 6,466-6,488 ft flowed at a stabilized rate of 2,800 b/d of oil through a 1-in. choke. Cliff Zeliff, Gulf Indonesia exploration vice president, said the testing program validates the company's plans already developed for the area.

Gulf Indonesia holds 50% interest in the Ketapang PSC and is operator for Pertamina, the Indonesian state oil company. Gulf's partner is Petronas Carigali Overseas Sdn. Bhd. with 50%.

Gulf Indonesia Resources Ltd. is based in Jakarta. Gulf Indonesia is 72% owned by Gulf Canada Resources Ltd., which has exploration and production operations in Canada, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and Ecuador.
